TheuseoftheCitizenBandradioserviceislicensedinAustraliabytheACMA
Radiocommunications(CitizensBandRadioStations)ClassLicenceandinNewZealand
bytheMinistryofEconomicDevelopmentNewZealand(MED).AGeneralUserRadio
LicenceforCitizensBandradioandoperationissubjecttoconditionscontainedin
thoselicences.
TheclasslicenceforusersandequipmentoperatingintheCB/PRS477MHzbandhas
beenamended.Thisradiomeetsthenew80channelstandard.
Insimpletermsthesameamountofspectrumisavailable;however,
radio transceivers
cannowoperateinanarrowerbandwidthandhenceuselessspectrum.Theseradios
aregenerallyreferredtoasnarrowbandor12.5kHzradios.Byusing12.5kHzchannel
spacinginsteadof25kHz,the40channelsoriginallyallocatedcannowbeexpanded
to80channelstherebydoublingthechannelcapacityandrelievingcongestioninthe
UHFCB/PRSband.
